Our Commitment to Safety

At AN Shotokan Karate Club, we believe that a safe training environment is essential for effective learning and personal growth. Our comprehensive Health, Safety & Hygiene Policy reflects our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety for everyone in our dojo.

Note: All members and visitors are expected to follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Hygiene & Cleanliness

Maintaining a clean training environment is fundamental to our club's operations:

  • Hand sanitiser is available at all entry points and throughout the venue
  • Members are encouraged to wash or sanitise their hands before and after training
  • Training areas, equipment and high-touch surfaces are cleaned regularly
  • All shared equipment is disinfected after each use
  • Ventilation is maintained throughout the training area

Personal Equipment

Proper equipment usage is essential for safety and hygiene:

  • Members should bring their own labelled water bottles and personal equipment
  • Sharing of gloves, pads or protective gear is not permitted
  • All personal equipment should be cleaned regularly
  • Proper karate gi (uniform) should be worn and maintained clean
  • Footwear should be removed before entering the training area

Training Environment

We maintain an organized and safe training space:

  • Sessions are structured to maintain safe spacing between members
  • Instructors manage entry and exit flow to keep movement organised
  • Members are asked to arrive on time and leave promptly with all personal items
  • Clear pathways are maintained for emergency access
  • Training intensity is matched to individual capabilities

Use of Facilities

Our facilities are maintained to the highest standards:

  • Restrooms may be used during sessions; please follow standard hygiene practices
  • Any spillages or hazards will be handled immediately by trained staff
  • Changing areas are cleaned regularly
  • All facilities are checked daily for safety compliance
  • Emergency exits are clearly marked and kept unobstructed

First Aid

We are prepared for any medical situations:

  • A qualified first-aider is always present during training
  • First aid is administered using appropriate protective equipment when required
  • Fully stocked first aid kits are available at all times
  • Emergency procedures are clearly displayed
  • Regular first aid training updates for all instructors

Health & Attendance

We prioritize the health of our entire community:

  • If a member feels unwell or displays symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, or sudden loss of taste or smell, they should not attend training and follow recommended health guidance
  • Attendance registers may be used for safety and contact purposes, in line with privacy regulations
  • Members should inform instructors of any existing medical conditions
  • Hydration breaks are scheduled during training sessions
  • Parents/guardians should notify us of any child health concerns
